March 16, 2017 Arrival to Elephant Nature Park

Today we woke up bright and early to the cool weather to pack our bags and get ready before breakfast. We ate toast with peanut butter and jelly, butter (or butter and sugar for some) as well as delicious, flavorful banana pancakes. About an hour later, we went to a house made of bamboo and grass, where we got blessed by the chief of the Karen village and received ‘people of all colors’ friendship bracelets and cookies for happiness and health. It was an extraordinary experience, and a very thoughtful gift. We then drove to the Elephant Nature Park (it was a 3 hour driver), stopping midway for lunch, which consisted of Pad Thai, fried rice and pineapples. Once we arrived at the park, we settled into our homes and then explored the place with Yo. We learned about the food the elephants eat, and the stories behind the elephants. We met again for dinner, which was a buffet with a bunch of delicious food where we experienced many different types of authentic Thai food. Today was a fairly busy and overall a very memorable day, and I’m really looking forward to the next couple of days to explore this beautiful park.

Very jealous! Pad Thai is my absolute favourite! They make a pretty good one here in Maple Ridge, but I bet it was outstanding in Thailand! So happy to be reading some messages from all of you 😀 Donna (Chase’s mum)
