First Day in Guatemala

First Day in Guatemala

Hello moms and dads of students of the Guatemala service trip! We have all landed safely and are having an absolutely amazing time here in the city of Antigua.

After a couple hiccups along the road in the journey of our plane. Our plane on the way to LAX was quite a bumpy ride due to all the wind and turbulence. After the little bumps on the flight, our ride went smoothly and we arrived right on schedule. Our flight to Guatemala was a long but smooth journey. We arrived twenty minutes early, rested and ready for the upcoming activities.

After settling in to our hotel, La Quinta Lucia, we had breakfast and after a short break for resting, we ventured through the city of Antigua and stopped for lunch. Following lunch, we went on a much longer walk around the entire city, exploring the churches, museums, monasteries and interestingly we met a family of macaws.

Subsequently, we were split into two groups and we went into a chocolate factory. At the factory, we had a 2 hour lesson on the history of chocolate and the cacao plant, and the making of chocolate. We got to taste different types of chocolates and made chocolate tea, chocolate froth, and hard chocolate.

At the end of the day we settled for a nice group dinner with dessert. We arrived back at our hotel at around 8:00 and got plenty of time to take showers, play games with friends, and settle in to bed.

Well done, Birthday Girl!  Sophia handled a birthday of travel with smiles and a sense of adventure.  I would disagree on the well-rested part, on behalf of those students who don’t sleep well on planes.  I’m looking forward to bedtime after a fun day of adventures.

    Dear Families,
Your comments are welcome as we write about our experiences. The teachers will read anything you write to the students as internet connections become available. We’re up and chipper this morning and ready to get on the bus to the Mystical Yoga Farm!

Sounds fab! Hopefully you all learn enough yoga to run a Yoga Boot Camp ( for all us, unfit people!😜)
Perhaps that could be our fundraising event for next year!!
The weather here continues on the Cloudy theme!
